Simulating With a Somewhat Old Mac
Week 3 of documenting my app development learning journey (Mar 9 - Mar 15)
First, I would like to say that amidst all the things going on in high school for me right now like AP classes, robotics competitions (I’m in an FRC team btw), and just being a high school student in general, I haven’t had much time to work on my iOS app development skills, but I have tried a schedule; maybe it will work out well for the newsletter next week.
Last week…
Reviewing iOS concepts? I forgot…
Friday, March 14th (Pi Day!)
I took the new ChatGPT model (4.5) for a spin to summarize the main aspects of Xcode as an analogy (explanations for these aspects can be found in last week’s newsletter):

I like this analogy!
Also, it turns out that my mom’s old Mac is old…
For context, look up the current Mac version as of March 2025.
REALLY old.
So this weekend, I’m planning to just leave the Mac alone while it’s plugged in, and just let it download the 120310293475203799 updates it needs to catch up to today’s Mac version (hopefully…)
Accomplishments
Reviewed the components of an iOS app!
Prepped my mom’s old Mac for all the updates it needs in order for me to be able to use it for Xcode later…
